The Living Room germinated at the Create & Counterpoints Summer School 2024 with myself, Abi Ighodaro, Aideen O’Donovan, Tatiana Dos Santos, and Rachel Botha.
The collective identified the unsustainability of neoliberal industrial capitalism and imagined an alternative to this extractive and exploitative system under the vehicle of the Living Room, a project which recentralises collective ownership and communal space. This would be achieved through community co-design, utilising local and existing skills and knowledge.
We imagine an alternative to this extractive and exploitative system. We believe The Living Room can be a vehicle for this alternative future where, in the spirit of a centralised communal space, the relationship between space and communities is recentered to collective ownership. This would be achieved through community co-design, utilising local and existing skills and knowledge.
