
On June 2024, the Haus of Schiaparelli, in collaboration with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) as part of its ‘Summer at IMMA’ Programme, organised voguing workshops. This was the first IMMA collaboration with a Black and Brown-led House, and we are proud to be the first Black and Brown-led Haus to throw a ball in Ireland.
Ballroom, as we know it today, has its origins in the African American and Latino LGBTQ+ communities of New York City. These communities created underground havens of expression in the mid-20th century as a response to widespread discrimination. It was in these hallowed halls that the tradition of ‘Voguing’ was born—a dance style inspired by fashion poses from magazines such as Vogue, later brought into the mainstream.
